Top Ten Signs You’re a Fundamentalist Christian

Posted by God Delusion on January 28th, 2010 Comments (0)

From http://www.evilbible.com/Top_Ten_List.htm

10 - You vigorously deny the existence of thousands of gods claimed by other religions, but feel outraged when someone denies the existence of yours.

9 - You feel insulted and “dehumanized” when scientists say that people evolved from other life forms, but you have no problem with the Biblical claim that we were created from dirt.

8 - You laugh at polytheists, but you have no problem believing in a Triune God.

7 - Your face turns purple when you hear of the “atrocities” attributed to Allah, but you don’t even flinch when hearing about how God/Jehovah slaughtered all the babies of Egypt in “Exodus” and ordered the elimination of entire ethnic groups in “Joshua” including women, children, and trees!

6 - You laugh at Hindu beliefs that deify humans, and Greek claims about gods sleeping with women, but you have no problem believing that the Holy Spirit impregnated Mary, who then gave birth to a man-god who got killed, came back to life and then ascended into the sky.

5 - You are willing to spend your life looking for little loopholes in the scientifically established age of Earth (few billion years), but you find nothing wrong with believing dates recorded by Bronze Age tribesmen sitting in their tents and guessing that Earth is a few generations old.

4 - You believe that the entire population of this planet with the exception of those who share your beliefs — though excluding those in all rival sects - will spend Eternity in an infinite Hell of Suffering.  And yet consider your religion the most “tolerant” and “loving.”

3 - While modern science, history, geology, biology, and physics have failed to convince you otherwise, some idiot rolling around on the floor speaking in “tongues” may be all the evidence you need to “prove” Christianity.

2 - You define 0.01% as a “high success rate” when it comes to answered prayers.  You consider that to be evidence that prayer works.  And you think that the remaining 99.99% FAILURE was simply the will of God.

1 - You actually know a lot less than many atheists and agnostics do about the Bible, Christianity, and church history - but still call yourself a Christian.

Lessons From the Scriptures Part 5 - The Bible Says so it Must Be True

Posted by God Delusion on January 12th, 2010 Comments (4)

Ahh the Bible, that ultimate authority for so many Christians.  The next time someone says they believe that the Bible is 100% God’s word, you can pull out these gems where the Bible says…

  • You should kill your child if he strikes you (Exod. 21:15)
  • And he that smiteth his father, or his mother, shall be surely put to death

  • If you work on the Sabbath, you should be put to death (Exod. 35:2)
  • Six days shall work be done, but on the seventh day there shall be to you an holy day, a sabbath of rest to the Lord: whosoever doeth work therein shall be put to death

  • If you curse, you should be stoned to death (Lev. 24:14)
  • Bring forth him that hath cursed without the camp; and let all that heard him lay their hands upon his head, and let all the congregation stone him.

  • Happiness is smashing children upon the rocks (Psalms 137:9)
  • Happy shall he be,that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the stones.

  • Women should be subjugated by their husbands (1 Pet. 3:1)
  • Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives;

    Atheists Challenge Irelands Blasphemy Law

Posted by God Delusion on January 5th, 2010 Comments (0)

Earlier this year we posted a short note about the silly blasphemy law that politicians in Ireland had passed, which  went into effect January 1st.

Now, Atheist Ireland is challenging that law, in order to provoke court action.

An Irish atheist group has published a series of quotations on religion in an attempt to challenge a blasphemy law that went into effect on New Year’s Day.

The 25 “blasphemous” quotations include the words of Jesus, Mohammed, Mark Twain, Salman Rushdie and Bjork.

A person breaks the law by saying or publishing anything “grossly abusive or insulting in relation to matters held sacred by any religion, thereby causing outrage among a substantial number of the adherents of that religion.”

Those found guilty of breaking the blasphemy law may try to defend themselves by proving that a reasonable person would find literary, artistic, political, scientific or academic value in what they said or published, the law says.

You can read the list of 25 quotations on the Atheist Ireland website.

I’ve been wrong this whole time! Hearing believers show their ignorance about evolution and science sure convinced me that God must truly exist.

    Catholics PWNED By Athiests

Posted by God Delusion on November 11th, 2009 Comments (0)

Put on by BBC World, the Question was “Is the Catholic church a force for good in the world?” The majority of the people at this debate decided that NO, it was not a force for good, and those people that were on the fence at the start (a poll was taken at the beginning and end of the debate) were swayed to the NO side.

Speaking for the motion, Archbishop John Onaiyekan and Ann Widdecombe MP. Speaking against the motion, Christopher Hitchens and Stephen Fry.

One Religous Group Takes the Homes of Another Religious Group

Posted by God Delusion on November 5th, 2009 Comments (0)

In a particular neighborhood, Israeli citizens, courts and cops decide that it’s okay to go into the homes of Palestinians and thrown all of their shit out onto the lawn, and then throw the home owners out and take the home by force. Apparently this is because God said that this land belongs to the Israelis. Nice system you have going there. This is why the separation of church and state is so important. We would all be better off if all politicans were agnostics.

    Humans Still Evolving, and Quickly

Posted by God Delusion on September 17th, 2009 Comments (1)

Recent evidence shows that humans are still evolving and passing on mutations that are benificial to their species.

One of the most famous examples is the spread of a gene that allows adults to digest milk.

Though children were able to drink milk, they typically developed lactose intolerance as they grew up. But after cattle and goats were domesticated in Europe and yaks and mares were domesticated in Asia, adults with a mutation that allowed them to digest milk had a nutritional advantage over those without.

As a result, they were more likely to have healthy offspring, prompting the mutation to spread, Hawks said.

I guess God didn’t create us in his own image, unless he was lactose intolerant.
