For all you non-god-fearing fans of Mr. Current, a recent video on what really happens when you go to the big social network in the sky. The end is, in a word, dead on.

Topic Agnostic’s 2008 Top Ten

Posted by Magdalene on January 23rd, 2009 Comments (0)

Time released their Top 10 of Everything, including the religious highlights of 08. They missed some of the best stuff! The also seem to be proud of the Mormons for killing gay marriage, and made me ask “when did evangelism become evangelicalism, and what is the heck difference?”

But so much other weird, fascinating, offensive, ridiculous, and insane stuff happened in the guff between atheists and the idiots we affectionately call believers, including this winner of an editorial illustration: the illustrious Pope Ben, surrounded by the gay wieners he so despises! It’s nice to show that image again, since Flickr finds it too offensive to put up on our gallery. Anyways, It was tough to pick cause all our stuff is so interesting, but here goes…

Topic Agnostic’s 2008 Top Ten: the really interesting religious stuff from the past year

1. Knowledge is the little hammer that chips away at the religious worldview
How information destroys the ignorance demanded by belief.

2. The best damn anti-Creationist rant ever, period.
Our serendipitous discovery of Aronra, a Texan geoscience student who’s eloquent YouTube video series “The Foundational Falsehoods of Creationism” just destroy creationist nonsense over and over and over again.

3. Senator Ernie Chambers sues God
It gets tossed out because no one’s sure where God lives.

4. Uwe Stuckenbrock dies in Scientology gulag
RIP Uwe.

5. Kathmandu gets a new Kumari, the Eastern Britney Spears
What happens to your psyche when you grow up thinking you’re a God?

6. Bush gets sued over National Day of Prayer
This stuff doesn’t get the coverage it deserves.

7. Google backs gay marriage
Christian activists try to live for a day without googling in protest.

8. Twinkle Dwivedi weeps blood
Our most popular post of the year by far. And, freaky!

9. Weinberg on living without God
It’s a shame intelligent men have to spend time writing articles like this.

And #10. Shoot I’m running out of room…

I also really, really liked this animated gif of Sarah Palin, and miss her unwavering commitment to total effing insanity.

May the new year bring an upsurge to atheist thought worldwide. Obama mentioning us in his inaugeration speech is a great start.

Atheist bus ads don’t fly in Italy

Posted by Magdalene on January 19th, 2009 Comments (1)

It seems like everybody’s plotting an atheist bus campaign these days. Good! It’s not happening in Genoa, Italy, however—violation of an “ethics code in advertising” prevented the ungodly slogans from appearing.

The bad news is that God doesn’t exist. The good news is that you don’t need him“, the ads were to proclaim.

Right-wing politicians fiercly criticized the message. The 1998 Catholic Almanac proclaims Italy to be the world’s most Catholic country, with 97.2% of the population obstensibly religious, so you can see why the idea was a tough sell.

Increasing God’s length and girth

Posted by Magdalene on January 6th, 2009 Comments (2)

Cristo Rendentor, the bloody big Jesus towering over Rio de Janeiro, may not be the Top God in Brazil for much longer. Sertaozinho, a town northwest of Sao Paulo city, is planning a way bigger Jesus (pedestal included) for Easter launch. About 681,000 God-glorifying dollars will be diverted from poverty, homelessness and other human travails in order to show the Lord who loves him most.

Giant Jesuses and huge crosses have popped up all over lately.

Munro, Ohio’s massive, wet Lord [image by Joe Orman]:

Effingham, Illinois’ almighty big glow-in-the-dark cross:

Lightening rods in…Missouri? [from Friendly Atheist]:

So you can see this is a common problem, the need to show God how big your religion is. I suspect he doesn’t give a damn about idol size and would prefer you to focus your funds upon the least of those, your bretheren.

Year One: a search for the meaning of life

Posted by Magdalene on January 3rd, 2009 Comments (1)

Ooh, this looks good! Filming this month, Year One is the epic quest of two hunter-gatherers (Jack Black and Micheal Cera, as ‘Oh’ and ‘Zed’) in Biblical times, looking for the meaning of life. Directed by comedy legend Harold Ramis, it’s going to be a Life Of Brian-esque tale inspired by improv Ramis did with Belushi as a Neanderthal and Bill Murray as a Cro-Magnon. Damn!

Expect delicious religious satire, with David Cross as Cain! I’m not a huge Jack Black fan, but I predict this will be an epiphanic role in which Black discovers his life-long niche, as Keanu did when he graduated from Ted to Neo.

Full length Religulous online

Posted by Magdalene on January 1st, 2009 Comments (3)

Happy 09! May it be a whole lot less religulous than last year. Speaking of that, should you have missed Bill Maher’s ungodly doc this year and are snowed in with no ability to rent it (do try to support this flick if you possibly can), the whole thing is up here.

Saw this on Reddit and thought it made a nice point…search this page for “God”.

The Holmes-Cruises under siege

Posted by Magdalene on December 30th, 2008 Comments (2)

Anonymous are freaking out the Holmes-Cruises! Protesting Katie’s big Broadway play and Tom’s Valkyrie opening, the group has been making public life unpleasant for the Dianetics Duo all year, driving home the actors’ association with the cult of Scientology.

Apparently, since the Valkyrie thing in mid-December, Tom’s terrified and has called in the FBI. A source says “He doesn’t feel safe anywhere”.

Cruise has spent £5 million on an underground bunker in the grounds of his estate in Colorado. In August, threats were made to place anthrax in the air vents of his Los Angeles office.

Now we feel bad for pointing out that Katie looks like crap of late! Biological threats must be very stressful :(

Reports don’t specify that Anonymous was responsible for the anthrax threats; it could have been any number of people who hope to see Katie & Suri escape from Witch Mountain.

Alamo lawyers: scandalous, schmandalous.

Posted by Magdalene on December 30th, 2008 Comments (0)

Tony Alamo, the cult leader arrested in September following a two-year child porn investigation, is now facing civil charges as well from two former cult followers. Among their charges are “scarring/disfigurement”. Cripes.

Lawyers for the evangelst are busy doing their thing, including seeking the removal of “impertinent or scandalous language” in the charges—such as the possibly pertinent info that the Southern Poverty Law Center has named Alamo’s ministry a hate group.

Alamo’s lawyers have also been busy on Topic Agnostic’s Flickr page, resulting in this notice from the Yahoo Copyright Team:

We have received a Notice of Infringement from Tony Alamo Christian Ministries via the Yahoo! Copyright Team and have removed the photo “Alamo Child Molester” from your photostream.
