Chalk this one up to proof of the supernatural; the face of Jesus Christ, Lord of Hosts, Son of God, appears on a moth in Texas. Apparently when it moves, it kind of looks like the King of Kings is talking to you.
I always pictured Jesus with a more pleasant look on his face.
Some of the people in that story were just bording on saying that it was a “miracle” and God sending a message, deliberately putting the pattern on the moth. How about this more plausible position; it’s just a random pattern on a moth that people with the Jesus paradigm are likely to say looks like Jesus.
The people on this story were much more sensible than those in the past. Of course, the report was very fluffy and didn’t go into anything meaningful.
The idea of finding patterns in random events is called “pareidolia”
Personally, I though that the butterfly looked like Ming the Merciless.

The very fact that this phenomenon is so wide-spread kind of points to it being human-generated wishful thinking. “It has an equivalent in the Muslim world where structures in food and other natural objects are perceived as religious text in Arabic” - wow! I came across a poll on Shiachat in which over half of respondents believe it says ‘Ali’ on the moon.
