“Be it resolved that the Church of Scientology in the state of Texas no longer be recognized as an official religion, thereby revoking its religious tax exempt status in the state of Texas…
Be it resolved that the Church of Scientology in the state of Texas be officially regarded as a business and not a religion“.
RESOLUTION ADOPTED THIS 29 DAY OF MARCH, 2008, AT THE PRECINCT/SENATORIAL CONVENTION OF PRECINCT NUMBER 341, AND/OR SENATORIAL DISTRICT 11 CONVENTION, GALVESTON COUNTY, TEXAS OF THE REPUBLICAN PARTY OF TEXAS.
Much discussion on whether this resolution is passed, pending, or merely proposed, but Go Texas nonetheless. Incredible. It only took 2 raids.

ALL religions are businesses. What so special about them that they are tax excempt?

According to the State of Texas, at least, they’d like to see “an official statement of faith”, “some form of routine worship”, and “church services…open and freely available to the public”. They’ve found Co$ to sport none of these attributes.
